Akol ("Company", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to responsible messaging practices. This policy explains how we obtain consent before sending SMS messages and how you can manage your preferences.
1How We Obtain Consent
Akol provides AI-powered phone agents for businesses. When a caller interacts with an Akol-powered phone agent, the AI assistant may offer to send a follow-up text message (e.g., appointment confirmation, call summary, or requested information).
SMS messages are only sent after the caller provides explicit verbal consent during the phone call. Consent is never assumed, pre-checked, or bundled with other agreements.
Consent is obtained through one of the following methods:
Verbal Consent During Call
The AI agent explicitly asks the caller if they would like to receive a text message. The caller must verbally agree before any SMS is sent. This consent is recorded in the call transcript.
Dashboard Configuration
Business owners using the Akol dashboard can configure SMS follow-ups for their AI agents. End-callers still provide verbal consent during each call before messages are sent.
2Opt-In Workflow
Below is the step-by-step process for how a caller opts in to receive SMS messages from an Akol-powered AI phone agent:
Caller Dials the Business Number
A customer calls the business phone number (e.g., toll-free 1-888-882-2559). The call is answered by the Akol AI agent.
AI Agent Handles the Call
The AI agent assists the caller — answering questions, booking appointments, or providing information as configured by the business.
AI Agent Asks for SMS Consent
Before ending the call, the AI agent asks the caller if they would like to receive a text message confirmation or follow-up.
Example AI Agent Script
"Would you like me to send you a text message with your appointment details? I'll send it to the number you're calling from. Standard message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP at any time to opt out."
Caller Provides Verbal Consent
The caller verbally agrees (e.g., "Yes, please send me a text"). This consent is captured and stored in the call transcript as a verifiable record.
SMS Message Is Sent
Only after receiving explicit consent, the system sends the relevant SMS (appointment details, summary, etc.) to the caller's phone number.
Consent Record
Every instance of verbal consent is recorded within the call transcript and stored securely. This record includes the date, time, caller phone number, and the exact exchange where consent was given. These records are retained for compliance and audit purposes.
3Types of Messages
SMS messages sent through Akol are strictly transactional and related to the phone call. We do not send promotional or marketing messages via SMS. Message types include:

"Hi Jane, this is a confirmation from Dr. Smith's office. Your appointment is scheduled for March 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Reply STOP to opt out of future texts."
4Message Frequency & Rates
Frequency
Message frequency varies based on your interactions. Typically, you will receive 1 message per phone call (e.g., one appointment confirmation per booking). You will not receive recurring or ongoing messages unless you initiate another call and provide consent again.
Standard Rates Apply
Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan. Akol does not charge for SMS messages, but your carrier may apply standard messaging fees.
5How to Opt Out
You can opt out of receiving SMS messages at any time using any of the following methods:
Reply STOP
Text STOP to any message you receive from us. You will receive a one-time confirmation: "You have been unsubscribed from Akol SMS messages. You will no longer receive texts. Reply START to re-subscribe."
Tell the AI Agent
During any phone call, you can verbally tell the AI agent that you do not want to receive text messages. Your preference will be recorded.
Contact Us
Email [email protected] or call 1-888-882-2559 to request removal from SMS communications.
After opting out, you will not receive any further SMS messages unless you provide consent again during a future phone call.
6How to Get Help
Reply HELP
Text HELP to any message you receive from us. You will receive:
"Akol SMS Help: For assistance, visit https://akol.ai/contact or call 1-888-882-2559. To stop messages, reply STOP. Msg & data rates may apply."
7Data Privacy
We will not share, sell, or rent your mobile phone number or any personal information collected via SMS to third parties for marketing or promotional purposes.
Phone Numbers
Your phone number is collected from caller ID during the phone call and is only used to send the SMS you consented to receive.
Message Content
SMS message content is generated based on the call interaction (e.g., appointment details) and is not shared with unrelated third parties.
Consent Records
Records of your consent are stored securely and retained for compliance purposes. They are accessible only to authorized personnel.
Data Retention
SMS delivery records are retained for 90 days for troubleshooting and compliance, then automatically deleted.
